Well, after having our trees tapped for 6 weeks we were finally able to boil Sunday. Have been running vacuum almost constantly since Friday we picked up 2000 gallons of sap to boil. Our ace vacuum leak detection team worked all day Saturday and got vacuum levels right up there. As with many years it is a battle getting equipment all operational, this year no exception. Water line is frozen from the barn to the sugarhouse so we will put in a new overland temporary pipe for cleaning equipment as I doubt it will thaw out until May. Ran the RO for 2 hours yesterday and could not get proper permeate flow rate. Thankfully Dan Bair was over so we ended taking the membrane out of the RO and starting over. Rubber gasket on the bottom of the membrane was not seated properly. Once that was corrected we were able to finally get going around 3:30pm. Seth went out in the nasty weather and pumped over all the sap from our woods. Quite a few visitors and our first meal in the sugarhouse this year. Seth, Froggy and I boiled until around midnight. I finished up cleaning and got in at 1:30 am. We made 25 gallons of medium and most importantly got everything operational. Looks like a promising 2 weeks ahead. If anyone is thinking of visiting us this season looks like this coming weekend may be good.
